The Guildford councillor leading on the borough’s controversial Draft Local Plan has been charged with seven criminal offences.

35-year-old Monika Juneja, who is from Guildford, is accused of wilfully pretending to be a barrister.

She is also charged with two fraud offences.

In a statement, Surrey Police outlined all the charges she faces: “One count of wilfully pretending to be a barrister contrary to the Legal Services Act 2007.

“Two offences contrary to the Fraud Act 2006, three offences contrary to the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981, and one count of pecuniary advantage contrary to the Theft Act 1968.”

Ms Juneja has been released on bail and is due before South West Surrey Magistrate’s Court on September 2nd.

She is leading on the Draft Local Plan, which has proved controversial as it suggests building on the Greenbelt.
