NEW ERA: Youngsters from Howard Nursery celebrate the new name

The Howard Nursery joined the education network along with two primary and two secondary schools – notably the Howard of Effingham School.

The trust said that day-to-day running of the nursery would carry on as usual at its site in Lower Road.

Head Helen Pennington said: “We are delighted that the nursery has joined the Howard family of schools. The nursery will continue to provide positive, personal and educational care, and the team will benefit from additional support, advice and resource provided as part of our outstanding partnership.”

The nursery went from “inadequate” to “good” in less than six months following a damning Ofsted inspection in May 2014. Another inspection was fast-tracked to September and the report published a month later awarded the facility the second-highest rank.

Inspector Catherine Greenwood said: “The nursery has made significant progress in addressing weaknesses identified at the last inspection. The manager has successfully driven improvement through working closely with staff, parents and the local authority.”
