TALENT: Pupils at Howard of Effingham during a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar
ASPIRING performers were given the chance to tread the boards on a professional stage when a school put on a production of a hit West End show at Leatherhead Theatre.
Students from Howard of Effingham School performed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar between March 5 and 7 to standing ovations each night.
Year 13 student Octavia Pither has been in every school musical during her time at the Howard and said she would fondly remember her time at the school.
She added: “It was a fantastic way to end seven years of shows at the school.
“I will miss the entire cast and crew as we have grown incredibly close over the last three months of rehearsals.”
Head girl Ailsa McKinlay, who came to see the show, said: “I know how hard the cast worked for this year’s show, and it has truly paid off. The show was spectacular and really showcased the huge range of talents here at Howard.”
Headteacher Mrs Pennington added: “Jesus Christ Superstar was breathtaking. The creativity and dedication of staff and students to ensuring this exceptional quality is extraordinary.”
