East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah has welcomed Friday’s “clear decision” over Oxted School’s future

Governors have backed foundation status proposals for the school, which take effect today.

Mr Gyimah said: “I welcome the detailed and extensive consultation response published by Oxted School, and the efforts they have made in recent weeks to take full account of the views of parents, teachers and other stakeholders within the community.

“I am pleased that a clear decision has been made on foundation status, and I look forward to continuing to work with the school as they seek to become one of the 65 per cent of schools that are academies, to further raise standards and ensure that pupils of Oxted continue to have the best start in life.”
