There are not many worse sights for road users than a large pothole looming in the distance.
You’re faced with swerving around the hole in the road, risking a collision or damaging your vehicle.
In an extreme case, one large crack nearly killed one cyclist in Guildford.
In January this year, it emerged Surrey County Council (SCC) topped a compensation pothole claims table, highlighting the level of frustration and misery they cause road users.
The authority does have a much-vaunted £100m investment programme for repairing potholes – which was hailed a “success” after 81 miles of road were fixed – and it will get an £87m government cash windfall to tackle potholes.
Despite this investment, claims that SCC is among the best for fixing potholes have been met with “disbelief”.
Data revealed the number of potholes in Surrey being patched up in recent times had fallen.
