Government Open Consultation of Powers for dealing with unauthorised development and encampments

A government review of the law and powers to deal with unauthorised caravan sites and developments was announced on 5 April 2018 by Housing Minister Dominic Raab.

The Consultation will run until 15th June 2018.

The Consultation is seeking evidence of unauthorised developments and encampments in the last two years in particular. This is of course of special relevance to Effingham as there were two separate illegal encampments in the summer of 2017 on Effingham Common and the KGV reported on the website here and here. Volunteers have recently been collecting and burning the last of the waste left by them as recently reported here

The Consultation reveals that since 2010, the number of traveller caravans on authorised sites has increased. Latest figures show approximately 16% of all caravans – around 3,700 – are on unauthorised sites.

EFFRA will be responding to the Consultation.  The Parish Council and the Effingham Village Recreation Trust which manages the KGV are also likely to respond.

You can read about the Consultation here and respond to the online survey here.
