These are the first artists’ impressions of how two expanded schools will look under plans to create more than 550 extra places.

They show the proposed extensions at Connaught Junior in Bagshot (120 places) and St Alban’s Primary, West Molesey (210).

The county council’s Cabinet is set to make a decision about the revamps at a meeting on Tuesday (16 December). It will also consider creating an additional 105 places at Bisley Church of England Primary and a further 120 at Worplesdon Primary.

Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning Linda Kemeny said: “Surrey needs to find 13,000 places over five years and these expansions form part of that.

“We’re facing a £215 million shortfall to meet this unprecedented demand when our budgets are also being severely strained by the rising number of older people needing care.

“With Surrey’s taxpayers making a net contribution of £6 billion to the national Exchequer each year and receiving back £1bn for essential services, it’s only right that they get a fairer deal for this huge task.”
