Major decisions over the future of development in Guildford are in the hands of the public as consultation starts on the borough’s draft Local Plan.

The controversial and extensive document, which aims to set out a blueprint for the borough’s development over the next 17 years, claims that Guildford is in need of 13,000 news homes at a rate of 650 per year.

Campaigners came out in force at a four-hour meeting of Guildford Borough Council last Thursday (June 19), aiming to block the plan due to fears over proposals to build on the green belt.
