A CENTRE for disabled people in Bookham is cock-a-hoop after welcoming ten new residents.

The Grange, in Rectory Lane, has opened a new chicken coop thanks to the fundraising efforts of the patrons of The Anchor Pub, who helped raise £1,400.

Residents of The Grange will tend to the chickens themselves and collect any eggs they lay to be used for cooking or sold in the centre’s shop, helping to promote independence and responsibility for residents.

Bookham resident Tony Mann helped to raise funds to pay for the coop through various activities at The Anchor, including meat raffles and quiz nights.
