An Effingham parish councillor has been charged with a number of offences after an alleged confrontation with travellers who have been camped on playing fields in the village.
James Nicholls reportedly attempted to create a roadblock at an entrance to the King George V playing fields last Friday morning. Police were called to the scene and the councillor was arrested.
