Surrey County Council has bid for £27 million from Whitehall to improve local flood defences.
The council has asked for the money to better protect residents across the county from a repeat of last winter’s floods.
County Council Cabinet Member for Flooding Recovery, John Furey, said: “Last winter’s floods cost Surrey’s economy tens of millions of pounds.
“We need approval for these crucial bids so we can better protect both Surrey residents and the UK economy.
“If these bids are successful, it will better protect over seven and a half thousand properties in places like Whyteleafe, Camberley and Haslemere.”
