THE Education Secretary visited Howard of Effingham School and tried her hand at a science experiment and simultaneous equations.

During her tour on Thursday Nicky Morgan also joined in with a Spanish lesson as the visitors tried a variety of subjects.

The whole trip was filmed by three Year 9 students who are taking part in the BBC Schools News Team project – Amber Iqbal, Rhys Wallis and Abbie Beard.

Head of school Helen Pennington said: “The whole school has been energised by the visit of the secretary of state who told us she was privileged to meet our staff and students.

“Across all year groups we are justly proud of everything we achieve at The Howard.

“The secretary of state congratulated us on our 2015 results and we were able to share with her some of our innovation in teaching, and introduce her to our students.

“This is a fantastic acknowledgement of the hard work of the whole school community.”

Mole Valley’s MP Sir Paul Beresford and Surrey County Council’s executive member for schools, Linda Kemeny, also joined in with the visit to the Lower Road school.
