LOCATION: The Foundry is behind shops in West Street, Dorking
INDUSTRIAL land in the heart of Dorking is to be turned into affordable housing after the district council failed to find tenants despite three years of marketing.
Mole Valley District Council’s executive decided to sell off the Foundry complex in West Street at a meeting at Pippbrook on Tuesday evening.
A report on the three units, two of which are vacant, said they no longer complied with the market standard and were “effectively haemorrhaging money”.
Speaking after the meeting, Councillor Stephen Cooksey (LibDem, Dorking South) said he and other members had called on the council to ensure it replaces the loss of industrial land.
