Deep floodwater has affected several rural roads across Ranmore Common.

At the top of Whitedown Lane, which connects Ranmore with Abinger Hammer,

the water following today’s heavy rain led to two motorists becoming marooned. One driver broke down in the floodwater, which was a foot deep and covered not just the road but an adjoining field.

Another driver managed to jerk his car to safety before the wet engine failed and he was unable to continue his journey. He rang for an emergency breakdown service and asked if it would also help the stranded motorist.
