OUTSPOKEN: Sir Paul Beresford
MOLE Valley’s MP has accused gypsies fighting for a home of “squatting” on green-belt land in Leatherhead, and labelled them “so-called travellers”.
Sir Paul Beresford made his stance known in regards to the ongoing saga surrounding the gypsy pitches in River Lane during a debate in the House of Commons last Thursday.
The Conservative MP criticised the four families, who have been fighting for permanent permission to live on the site since buying it in 2003, for flouting planning laws and building on the land without consent.
Sir Paul’s comments arose after he called on the Leader of the House of Commons, Chris Grayling, to agree to a debate regarding “so-called travellers thwarting the whole essence of the planning system“.
