Surrey County Council approves plans to switch off 40,000 street lights at night to save funds

Councillors on Tuesday 18 October, signed off a decision to extinguish 44,000 street lights between midnight and 5am, saving the county council £210,000 per year.

“Part-night lighting” in Guildford, Waverley and Surrey Heath boroughs is expected to be implemented in December 2016, while the street lights in Elmbridge, Reigate and Banstead, Epsom and Ewell and Mole Valley will be turned off in January 2017.
