CoE Parish response to the Death of Her Majesty

A message from the Reverend Mandy MacVean, Rector for The Parish of St Lawrence, Effingham, and All Saints, Little Bookham.

How are we marking the death of Queen Elizabeth within our Parish

Both our churches will be open during daylight hours for quiet prayer and reflection.

Within the churches we have created a ‘Memorial Focal Point’ where you may light a candle and leave a message in the Book of Condolence if you wish to.

If you would like to leave a floral tribute, please do so on the grass outside the porches of either church. These will be left in position until the day after the Queen’s funeral.

This evening we will have a short ‘Service of Reflection and Thanksgiving’ starting at 7pm in St Lawrence Church. Please join us if you can.

The Union Flag on St Lawrence Church will be flown at half mast until the morning after the Queen’s Funeral.
The exception will be between 11am on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday when the Union Flag will be raised for the Proclamation of the New Monarch.

The Tolling Bell at St Lawrence will be tolled all day today and the bell at All Saints will be tolled for an hour at noon today.

On the day of the Funeral (which is likely to be Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th September), the bells will be tolled in both churches for an hour before the start of the funeral service.

Our Services this Sunday 11th September (8am in All Saints and 10am in St Lawrence) will be Communion Services with special prayers and reflections for the Queen and her family. All are welcome to join us.
