For over the last 20 years, there has been a bonfire night at KGV. This year the Trustees have decided to cancel the event. Their explanation is provided in the Letter Fireworks 2016.

Seems like a reasonable decision to me. One thing which seems slightly anomalous is Liz’s assertion that “The Trustees cannot legally devolve to any other party their overall responsibilities for the safety and proper conduct of all that happens on the KGV ” which rather rules out anyone else – such as Chris Dick’s suggestion of an independent Village Fireworks Committee – using the KGV for similar events. But if people collecting entrance fees are being threatened with violence by people who don’t want to pay (this was reported to me by my wife who volunteered last year, as happening to one of the lads brought in at the last moment to provide security) and there’s virtually no police presence, then it clearly cannot proceed.
Isn’t about time there was a vote of no confidence in the parish council. If those involved believe that the real reason to cancel this annual highly enjoyable successful event is not obvious then they are more dillusional than already regarded.
The Firework display is not organised by the Parish Council, it is organised by EVRT. Perhaps you’d like to outline what you regard as the real reasons for its cancellation. I attended the EVRT AGM and the reasons given then and in Liz’s letter seem pretty strong to me.
