Yesterday evening the Guildford Borough Council Planning Committee unanimously agreed with the Council’s Planning Officer’s recommendation to refuse the planning application by Taylor Wimpey for over 1,700 dwellings at the former Wisley Airfield. Concerns included the impact on wildlife and the natural environment surrounding the site, including the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area and the lack of sustainability of the proposed development.
As Taylor Wimpey had already appealed on the grounds of non-determination (because GBC has taken too long to make a decision), the decision on the application will be made by a government Planning Inspector. The Public Inquiry is due to start on 26th September with the venue yet to be determined.
Well done Guildford Borough Council. A sound and logical decision.
We can now await some bloody fool in Government to override it.
God help us.
