Charities, community and voluntary organisations can now apply for grants of up to £5,000, through the new Aspire Voluntary Grants Scheme. The grants are to help fund projects that support older, more vulnerable and less advantaged residents.
Cllr Julia McShane, Lead Councillor for Community says:
“We have set up this grants scheme to make £50,000 available to help fund projects that will benefit and support our older, most vulnerable and less advantaged residents.
“We know that this has been a very difficult period for many of our residents, especially the elderly and vulnerable who have had to shield. We hope this funding will allow voluntary organisations to continue to provide the very best support to our residents. Aspire is here because we believe every person matters and our residents are at the heart of everything we do.”

Other initiatives which are helping to support local groups and residents include Surrey County Council’s £100 million Your Fund Surrey, which gives financial backing to projects submitted by residents and community groups that enhance their local area.
The Community Foundation for Surrey has been supporting communities throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and was recently given £250,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund for their Surrey Coronavirus Response Fund, which is being used to award grants to good causes helping local people.
Council initiatives supporting residents include Guildford Philanthropy, which provides funding to help local people with training opportunities, building skills and gaining work experience for employment as well as Covid-related projects.
Our Community Lottery has continued to help local not-for-profit organisations such as charities, school PTAs, sports clubs and other groups raise money through a weekly draw. Since starting in 2018, its helped local good causes raise almost £112,000.
