Aster Group, in conjunction with Thakeham Homes, is proposing to build around 37 houses on a field which is owned by Orestan Developments Ltd. north of Orestan Lane next to the Plough public house. The field is in the Green Belt and in the Conservation Area. The developer says that at least half of the houses will be affordable.
There is currently planning permission to build 405 homes in Effingham 80 of which are to be affordable, as part of the Berkeley Homes/Howard School development.
The developer is holding a consultation which closes on 10th December. If you would like to take part in the consultation or read more about the proposals click the link below.

This is just ridiculous. The Green Belt is there for a very good reason and should be sacrosanct.
Given that there are plans for 400 houses already in Effingham, even more are totally unnecessary.
I would also point out that there are new houses in the area (eg top road between Bookham and Leatherhead) which have been for sale for months and months without selling.
I simply do not believe that there is a need for so many new builds.
These developers must be reined in.
Yours furious,
David King
