The temporary Community Store opened at Layla’s café on The Street, Effingham at 10 o’clock today. It will be open until the Village Supermarket reopens or Layla’s is able to reopen. Euna and Ian are very kindly allowing the community the use of their premises free of charge. The store is being run by volunteers with a small management team headed by the Rev Mandy MacVean.
It will be open from 10 to 2pm from Monday to Saturday. Two customers are allowed in the shop at any one time and are asked to hand sanitize as they enter. Customers are asked to bring their own shopping bags.
It is stocking a good range of food and household provisions at competitive prices. Any profit made by the store when it closes will be returned to Effingham Parish Council’s Community Fund which has made the store a grant of £5,000 to start up. Guildford Borough Council’s Aspire fund has made a matching grant.
