Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Litter Pick on Saturday 16 November. This time, we attempted something new: to pick the entire village. Previous picks have concentrated on the major roads and central area, but this time we were able to cover residential roads as well.
One thing is clear: the village is cleaner. What was particularly impressive was the lack of sweet wrappers and so forth outside the four schools in the village. Well done particularly to children and parents! We think that previous Picks have had an effect: if an area is strewn with rubbish, then people are less inclined to look for a bin. There are also a number of villagers who go out picking by themselves, for which we are most grateful.
That said, we managed 18 bags of litter, plus various bits of metal. The biggest sources were builders’ rubbish from the many building sites in the village, and of course litter on the major roads from through traffic.
After the Pick we had our traditional tea and scones, and met several new pickers.
Look out for details of next year’s picks on the EFFRA website and our notice board by the shops.
