Community Clear Up of New Barnes Wallis Memorial Garden on Saturday 10th October

There will be a community clear up of the new Barnes Wallis Memorial Garden (formerly the Community Orchard) on The Street in Effingham on Saturday 10th October between 9am and 4pm.  The overgrown southern end of the garden has recently been cleared by a professional contractor and the clear up will concentrate on the rest of the garden.

The clear up will prepare the garden for the installation of the interpretation panel to commemorate the life of Sir Barnes Wallis who lived in Effingham and contributed greatly to the village. An opening ceremony will be held in November (date to be confirmed) once the panel is installed.

Please email info@effinghamresidents.org.uk if you are able to help for any of the time on Saturday 10th October between 9am and 4pm.

The clear up is only suitable for adults because of the nearby busy road.

Residents are asked to wear suitable gardening clothing and to bring their own tools and gardening gloves if possible, although there will be tools available to use.

If we need to cancel due to rain we will email to let residents know.

The creation of the garden is being led by the Effingham Residents Association using a grant from Surrey County Council’s Your Fund Surrey Small Community Projects Fund and is being supported and assisted by the Effingham Gentleman’s Club. Once completed, the Parish Council will organise ongoing regular maintenance of the garden with occasional community clear up days.
