Proposed changes to SWR train frequency to London

In partnership with Network Rail and the Department for Transport, South Western Trains (SWR) have launched a stakeholder consultation on proposals for their December 2022 timetable. This is a strategic review of future service levels across their network. The consultation is open until 19 September 2021. For further details, see the SWR website at www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey/timetables/timetable-consultation-december-2022

Leatherhead Living has posted some reactions to the proposed changes which can be read here

The changes proposed will effect the frequency of SWR trains to London. Whilst train frequency has been reduced whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place, the changes are compared with the service levels in May 2019, with what is proposed for the December 2022. The changes that could impact Effingham residents are:

  • Dorking a cut from 4 trains per hour to 2 trains per hour during peak times, and a cut from 2 trains per hour to 1 train per hour during off-peak times.
  • Guildford via Leatherhead a cut from 2 trains per hour to 1 train per hour during off-peak times.
