Remembrance Sunday 9th November – rembering Effingham Servicemen who died in WWII.

It is 80 years since the end of the Second World War in 1945, making Remembrance Sunday on 9th November particularly significant. Remembrance Sunday in the United Kingdom is held as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women who died in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

Fifteen servicemen from Effingham died in the Second World War and are remembered on a plaque in St Lawrence Church. The PDF document  Effingham WW2 Casualties gives details of their lives and deaths.

A Remembrance Day Service will be held at St Lawrence Church on Sunday 9th November at 10.15 with marches of uniformed groups and the laying up of standards and the laying of wreaths.
