Comments on Berkeley Homes appeals by 1 July

Comments on appeal APP/Y3615/W/22/3298341 against Guildford Borough Council’s (GBC’s) refusal of 110 homes on the Green Belt, and appeal APP/Y3615/W/22/3298390 against GBC’s refusal of the detailed design on the eastern boundary of the Howard of Effingham School site development, must be submitted by Friday 1st July 2022.

All residents who objected should have received a letter from GBC explaining how they can comment. The best way of commenting is via the Planning Inspectorate website https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/

Effingham Residents Association (EFFRA) will be responding to both appeals, supporting Guildford Borough Council’s refusal of the planning applications.

EFFRA does not agree with the appellant (Berkeley Homes) that building 110 homes on the Green Belt is linked to the rebuilding of the Howard of Effingham School (HoE), which was dealt with in the 2018 decision by the Secretary of State, as the piece of land in the application was not part of the agreed scheme. We believe the development will cause serious damage to the Green Belt and harm the rural character of the village and that Guildford Borough Council was right to refuse it.

EFFRA agrees with Mole Valley District Council and the Rector of All Saints Church that the detailed design on the eastern boundary of the HoE school site, will harm the Little Bookham Conservation Area and the setting of the church graveyard and the nationally listed All Saints Church, and a redesign of the site, with consultation, could resolve the matter.
