Elected mayor: What is it and what does it mean for Guildford?

Last month the council announced a referendum will take place in October asking voters if they want to be governed by a directly elected mayor .

The proposal would be a change in leadership from the current process at Guildford Borough Council, which modified its governance arrangements last year.
