Fatal crash on A246 in Effingham yesterday evening

There was a fatal two-vehicle collision, involving a white BMW and a grey Land Rover Freelander, on the A246 Guildford Road around 10.30pm yesterday (Wednesday) west of the Effingham traffic lights.  The road was closed between the traffic lights and Dirtham Lane overnight and this morning, but has since been opened.

Sadly, the passenger in the BMW died at the scene. The driver of the BMW and the driver of the Land Rover sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. The driver of the BMW has been arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. The BBC has reported the incident here.
