Contractors for Surrey County Council are due to start work tomorrow – Tuesday 28th July on improving the surface of Public Footpath 118. The footpath runs from St Lawrence Church towards All Saints across the northern boundary of the KGV behind the Howard of Effingham School and locally is sometimes called The Bishop’s Walk. Public Footpath 73 which runs from the end of Public Footpath 118 at the boundary of the KGV past All Saints Church and joins Public Footpath 75 to Lower Road will not be affected (see notice below).
It’s hoped that the work will be completed in about 7 to 10 days.
Please make use of the alternative route shown in the notice whilst these improvements are made. They will improve future use of this well used footpath especially during wet weather when it currently gets very muddy …should wet weather ever return!

The contractor has deposited the majority of the excavated spoil up onto the steep banks adjacent to the path.
When we get heavy rain it will wash back down onto the path turning it into what it already was. How this gas been signed off as completed is beyond me. It would be worth taking photo’s & reporting this to SCC.
Thanks for posting this John. Surrey County Council has been informed and their Countryside Access Officer has said he will go and look at it today. It would be a real shame if this spoil comes down on the new surface.
Hi Vivien,
Thank you for your swift action & reply.
When the Access officer visits, it will be inevitable that the contractor will be required to return & clean up the dug out spoil on the bank which is in heaps all the way down from the top of the woods. But now the fear is that they will do half a job again, remove some & just rake the rest around the banks which will all wash down onto the new top dressing. All things considered they could’ve had the Scout hut 5 bar gate opened & a mini dumper heap the spoil in a suitable place for a grab lorry to remove it, it was really that simple.
